Last few nights I been spending time with the local Langkawi surf community, together with the pro skaters from Cherating and Kuala Lumpur, who were here on a skate tour organised by Carver Malaysia (@carverskateboards_malaysia ), skating through the night around an empty parking area, next to a bus depot and the main square of Pantai Chenang.
It was something of a joy ride, feeling free and the excitement for everyone who joined along, to learn and to try out the new Carver skateboards, including myself learning how to surf skate for the first time. It took me a few tries before I got the technique, handling and moves, still needing a lot of practice.
The surf skate culture is still a growing trend in Malaysia and is catching up fast with so many youth purchasing their own surf skateboards, improving their moves, learning new skills with the similar feelings of surfing on land. There are also many new surf skate parks opening in main towns, mainly the city centre.
They travelled across from the east coast towards the west coast islands here, welcomed by the Langkawi youth surf community, creating awareness for the surf skate culture and youth expression via alternative sports.
