Santa Claus of Pahang, Malaysia

Santa Claus of Pahang, Malaysia

They call him Santa Claus in his village at Kuala Rompin. It’s obvious why, so I had to see it for myself when I heard about him. He is from the Jakun tribe.

“How long have you lived here?”
“Oh oh for a long long time, I’m not sure actually. Maybe about 70-80 years. This house I build with my own hands but today it’s as old as me. It needs fixing but I’m not well now. So the house is broken in many parts too. It’s leaking and some floors are rotted.”

“Why not fix it?”
“No it’s okay, it has seen many things, like me. My whole family lived here, but today they all have their own homes, even my wife sleeps next door in the better house with my daughter. I stay here alone now. I just like it here, I can only sleep here. It has all of my life memories. My wife brings food when I’m hungry, that’s all I need. Hahaha.”

I left feeling good about life again, he had a beautiful smile and laughter. Merry Christmas!
