The Children of Vinh Son 4 Orphanage, Vietnam

Vinh Son Orphanage, established in 2001, then received their non-profit status July 26, 2005. Currently housing about 175 children from the Central Highland poor villages.

During my recent motorbike trip to the Central Highlands, I was lucky to have found and visited an orphanage here in Kon Tum district with a close friend of mine, Huy. After getting leads from other locals, we finally found this hidden orphanage about 15km from Kon Tum.

At first the children were a little afraid and shy to get close to two strangers riding in with bikes but it was magical to see how a smile and some humour could open up a whole new world of fun and laughter with this children.

We had the most amazing experience spending time with this beautiful children on Vinh Son 4, but sadly they are living with very little basic needs. They sleep on wood made sheets, walk barefoot, wearing torn clothing, no toys and no proper books. Some organisations like Viet Dreams have lend a hand to help this orphanage.

There is still so much these kids need and deserve like comfy beds, good educational books, educational toys, solar lights to read, teachers/volunteers, healthy food, slippers, clean clothes and solar lights for reading.

Sitting peacefully with friends.

The kids here are mostly from the Central Highands region, poor villages and of parents who cannot afford to raise the kids. – Kon Tum, Vietnam

They then took me over to their play area, unlike us we had playgrounds and back yard in our homes & cities.

We have a river! Some shouting as they ran down.

Finally our hearts are open and we are friends. This is where I see magic in our universe. Pure innocent magic.

This is a worker dorm or squatters. Was not really a place for a person to be living in.

The inside of the worker squatters. She is also disable but one of the most hardworking people here.

The main building where there house a school like room and office. I didn’t see any books and educational items.

One of the bedroom area in Vinh Son 4, the beds are flat wood sheet with cloth over it.. Not really a comfy place for children. If you wish to donate some mattresses please contact us.

The open bathroom area for the children, not very clean or systematic. Then kids do get clean water with the help of filtration systems by Viet Dreams Foundation but there is more we can do to help make their lives better and healthy.

We left the orphanage thinking about the kids who didn’t want to let us go. Holding on to our hands as tight as they can, asking us to stay longer. We knew its time to say good bye so we left with a heavy heart but with a fulfilling experiences.

We hope to come back again with gifts. Give Light
