I was invited to talk during the SPA Arts & Cultural event in Capiz High School in Roxas City, Panay, Philippines.
It was amazing to meet and speak to this talented group of students from the age of 13 to 16 years. From dancers, performers, musicians, singers, media & graphic students.
Capiz High runs a yearly 3 day camp for this SPA Arts students, exposing them to the arts & cultural world by inviting guest from different professional backgrounds to teach, guide and share their real world experiences with the students.
Here are some stories from my two days with them.
“Tell me something you are passionate about?”
“I like dancing, it’s my passion. I study it here at my school program as part of my activity. I wish to go to Paris someday and dance on a broadway stage.”
“What’s your fav pass time?”
“Just singing all the time.”
“At times the engineering students think we are morons just dancing and singing all the time. They look down on us.”
Students singing and jamming during break time… “cause all of me…. loves all of you.”
A group photo after our field activity. I had to show them how I do what I do.
“What is worse past experience that effects your life today?”
“My dad. He was a journalist and doing a story on some people involved with drugs and money laundering. They were criminals and didn’t like my dad doing this story about their crimes. One day they met up with my dad at a nearby gas station here in our town, and they shot him. That was seven years ago. I still miss him, her was a good man. I am stronger today as I know what society is all about.”
“Tell me about the saddest moment in your life that scarred you?”
“It was when my parents separated. They use to argue a lot and one day my dad left. Not living together with my parents is really hard, I live with relatives now since a few years ago. I wish they were with me today. I really don’t want to talk about it now.”
She then started crying.
