Series of some moments captured during my second trip to Hokse, Palanchok. A mountain village where the earthquake had destroyed most of the houses and many lives.
A grass-root volunteer society, Secret Garden Disaster Relief is currently doing a special project there to relocate 42 families that are currently living on a landslide zone. The families have been ask to evacuate due to the hazardous conditions.
These families will be moved to this new location where the shelters and community centre is being build, with houses, toilets, water tanks, common areas etc.
10-15 volunteers who are working to finish this project live here in tents, with their own little kitchen, open toilet and wash areas. They work daily on a timeline to complete this new ‘village’ for the 42 families. This is home to many of them now, some volunteers have been here for nearly a month now.
I took some time to stay among the volunteers and villagers, gathering images and stories of their daily activities. Some days even getting my hands dirty in building shelters, digging holes, cutting bamboo etc. Currently the shelters are made of CGI Sheets (Zink) and bamboos.
Also adding on with water tanks, piping, common toilets with septic pits and soon more to come to help this community in Hokse.
With the donations received via the ‘Voices Of Nepal’ project, we donated to help with materials in this shelter project. We thank you again to all the sponsors and donors also via Secret Garden’s community, this earthquake survivors in Hokse will be getting new ‘homes’ and hopefully this new village will give them a chance to start life over again.
Next will be the solar lights for this village within the next few weeks.
