I Felt Alive In The Philippines

I Felt Alive In The Philippines

After the solar lights distribution in Olotayan Island, we had to stay back as there was a typhoon aka storm passing through. I will always remember this day. The village head said, “Are you sure you want to get back today, you will get all wet, keep all your belonging in plastic bags and try not to fall into the sea”.

We had to jump into a smaller fishing boat to get to the mainland, the boat had to ride with ten feet high waves in order to stay afloat, like a surf board. We sat on the sides on this fishing boat, balancing it, holding on the middle rod hoping not to fall over. After 30 mins of surfing the seas he left us on the closest lifeless coast line and asked us to swim to the nearest land point. So we swam to shore.

I was afraid, all wet, worried about my gear and extremely tired. I felt alive.
