Food Aid for 20 families – Nepal Earthquake

Food Aid for 20 families – Nepal Earthquake

Yesterday we did the first food aid for the survivors of the Nepal Earthquake at Chautara, Sindhupalchok. A location where the worse effected area is today with over 90% houses destroyed. It was something that I could do for a start with the cash I had in hand. I met with 20 families living in temporary tents and a camp site set up by the international NGO’s, for families that lost their homes, personal belongings and some even lost their loved ones.

What did it cost me to feed 20 families for 3 days? US$50 (RM190).
What did we get for US$50?
25kg of rice, 10 kg of onions, 2 big boxes of biscuits, 30 small bags of cooking oil, 1 box of noodles and we had 20 packs of food aid given away. This will last them 2-3 days depending on size of each family.

We still need to do more here, and there are more families needing food aid as they are not getting any from NGOs since the operations are controlled by the Nepali government. Many poor families are eating the same food daily, just dhal and plain rice, some even just one meal a day.

As a private individuals, we can make things happen faster here and get them better food. I intend to return here, stay longer and start a food/open kitchen for more families, rural areas and hopefully getting more done.

I cannot do this with limited funds that I have today, so I am requesting this from you. To help donate, even as little as US$5 (RM15-20) will go a long way as groceries are way cheaper than in your supermarkets. We need the funds for logistics, tents, food aid and solar lights for many areas here. Let’s all do little for another human in need.
