Being back in Malaysia was great, as I got a chance to work with some amazing Malaysian friends and partners. This is one of my most special projects here and we hope it was enough but there is still more work to be done here in Gua Musang for the Temiar Tribe who have been living with no electricity for almost 50 years now.
It’s always worth it, after all. Just out of the forest area of Gua Musang, one last photo for our memories, one more journey that was taken together, new friends made and 500 tribe (Orang Asli) families helped.
On May 2016, another ‘Give Light‘ project was completed, with 480 Nokero solar lights donated to the Temiar tribe, filming done, voices heard and friendships made! As of today, I have sent a total of 1590 lights, with a target of 10,000 lights.
We not only helped over 500 families there but also kept on shedding awareness on other issues happening with these tribes, with the breaking post of the blockades, illegal deforestation, mothers loosing children and other social issues that are happening here in Gua Musang.
Many of you have followed up with me, NGOs going into these jungles and return to help them again, and I hope many will keep heading to this location to support our Temiar tribes. On that note I would also like to thank everyone who donated and supported us.
It was then when I realise how important these simple solar lights are, not just as an item but a door opener to many others to notice them. To see them, to see the issues that are happening today. So this is my goal and purpose in life today.
A purpose that I have realised being on a road for almost four years now, a purpose to send more solar lights to all Tribes in Asia and Malaysia.
I will make it my personal goal to complete this mission, solar lights for each tribal family, 10,000 solar lights to help 5000 families. A message to send others out there, that they are not alone, we are in this together as one race. To do this, to complete my purpose, I need your support, strength and voice. You, the readers, the donors and the volunteers. You are their voice.
The team helping with sorting and distribution of the solar lights, we had 480 lights to give out and each family will be receiving 2 lights each. We chose from the oldest and mothers first. Locals helping out by transporting the children and women who live in the other villages close by.
Some of the elderly Temiar who receive the solar lights from us directly, we went to each village to give out the lights to them. Some have never used solar lights in the last 50 years living here. The film crew and media team helped out in the distribution process and listing down each family that received the solar lights
The Temiar tribe in Gua Musang, gathering to celebrate with a little local dance and ritual. It was a special moment for all of us. We thank everyone that helped, the 4×4 wheel drive team, Hanifi and drivers, the production team with James and all those who donated. A big hug and thank you!
Special thanks and big big hugs to sponsors DIGI Malaysia, production crew James Lee (Doghouse73 Pictures), Muhamad Hanifi (4×4 Wheel Drivers Team), Sandie Lee and team and all the crew members who help and volunteered in this project. You guys were amazing!
P/S – The river baths were just magic!
