A Pot Of Rice And No Light – Pitas, Sabah

Pitas, Sabah - Malaysia

“What are you cooking here?”
“I’m making rice. It’s for our dinner later.”
“So do you always cook out here?”
“Yes most of the time, when we have a bigger meal to make. It’s easy to cook here with this pot and with wood it’s cheaper too.”
“I’m guessing you don’t have a stove or a gas tank like others in the cities.”
“Haha of course we don’t, we never used that before. We don’t need a stove here as we don’t even have electricity or water in our homes.”
“So how long have you lived here?”
“All my life.”
“And how long have you lived without electricity or clean water?”
“All my life.”
