The Ati are a Negrito ethnic group in the Visayas, the central portion of the Philippine archipelago. Their small numbers are principally concentrated in the islands of Boracay, Panay and Negros. They are genetically related to other Negrito ethnic groups in the Philippines.
This is the first time the Ati Tribe have receive or seen a modern electronic item which is manufactured from far across the world. Seems magical how the worlds are connected here. They have never even seen an iPhone before, mine was the first they saw.
They mainly farm corn and sugarcane here. There are about 49 families of this Ati Tribe living on this mountain called Tag-Ao. They been living with no electricity since the 1970’s. On Sept 2014, 100 solar lights were donated last week. Today they finally have lights in their homes.
So proud to be one of the first to send aid (clothes and medical aid), photograph and donate solar light to this hidden tribe in the Philippines.
Since this article was posted, there were many other groups and societies that followed up to send more aid and help the tribes with basic needs like medical aid, water tank, schools and more. We hope this will continue to open more doors for the future to all tribes in the Philippines.
